Eco Tour of Steam Whistle Brewing

Steam Whistle Brewing, an independent brewery located in Toronto’s historic Roundhouse invites the public in for tours to learn why the company was named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers in 2010  and earned an Environmental Award of Excellence from the City of Toronto in 2009. Beyond the all-natural, GMO-free ingredients in their Premium Pilsner, Steam Whistle employs sustainable practices throughout their entire operations, utilizing such measures as 100% green electricity from Bullfrog Power, eco-packaging, water & energy conservation, Bio Fuel in their fleet, and diverting in excess of 90% of their operational outputs from landfill.

Visitors are greeted by knowledgeable staff offering complimentary samples of Steam Whistle Pilsner, a 3-time gold winner at the Ontario Brewing Awards. The half hour tour moves on catwalks above the brewhouse, fermenting cellars, kegging, bottle shop and canning line providing an up close view of how this beer is crafted. The tour ends in the brewery’s mezzanine level tasting room, where visitors are lead through a beer appreciation lesson:  how to best store and serve beer; what to look for visually, aromatically, in tasting and after-taste

The basic tour costs $10 per person (including 2 complimentary samples and either a souvenir whistle or pint glass) and goes up from there depending on souvenir options. Steam Whistle Brewing is open 363 days a year (closed only Christmas & New Year’s Day) with tours running every 30 minutes beginning at 1pm and ending at 5pm daily.
